    Re: College Football

Hey ref.....did you go to school there?? obviously not.. i did, and i worked with the football team, so i have a connection with a ton of ppl that live there, go to school there, play fb there, etc. football is everything there, and until yesterday, no one was really going to get over any of that mess.. and still won't for a long time... and you don't hear the players saying they need that to get motivated..that's more on the media if anything really.. but the game gave everyone something to look forward to, because it would bring back that positive energy that runs through town and brings ppl from all walks of life together for a few hours... imagine if someone came into your house and hurt your family, cuz thats the case there.. everyone there is part of a gi-normus family... i realize some ppl are tired of hearing about it.. and tired of ppl using it as an excuse to have an off day on the field.. but we are talking about 20-22 year old young men here who dealt with a tragedy not so long ago.. and as for whoever made the comment about how this happened 5 months ago and should be forgotten, if your own family or friends were hurt or taken away 5 months ago, you'd still be dealin with that [censored] too.. so maybe you had friends or family or whatever up there or in the area or what have you, but unless YOU were there, or went to school there, then you don't truly understand what that was like and what it's still like to think about, or talk about, or read about, etc.

I'm loving this weekend of college football so far. Va Tech might get beat, and looks like Michigan is gettin' it by good ole Appy State. </div></div>

You didn't love the weekend like I did. VT won and the Domers get slapped around by the Jackets at South Bend!!

Bet you'd have been even sicker if it had happened at UT.

Listen pal, those aren't the only people in history to die, I understand it was a great tragedy, but at some point you have to let go. Lots of teams lose players, coaches and fans to death, it happens. FSU's D coordinator just lost his son, Bowden lost a son-in-law and a grandson a few years back. Miami had an actual player get shot and killed last year. And I personally lost my dad a few years back and just lost my aunt last week. But I understand that death has to happen and no matter how long I dwell on it, they ain't coming back.

Yeah, but this is their first "BIG" event since it happened. It will be a while before it calms down. ( I guess graduation doesn't count does it)

Look, after 9-11 how long did we hear that Lee Greenwood song and how long did people leave the American Flag up instead of their fav team's flag. It was a long time and I personally got tired of 9-11 stories on every single day but it had to run it's course.
I don't think VT is holding on to it at all. It is a part of them now and time will heal the wound but as of now it is still pretty raw for them. "first football game since. first semester since. first new class since....."

No I didn't go to school there. I do have friends and family that go to school there and that work for VA Tech. I have talked to them about it quite a bit. I even had a friend that was in Norris by himself in a room/lab when the shooting took place. Yes I hate it happened. It was awful and my heart goes out to the family and friends of those that were lost, but how many of those on the football team new more than 1 person that was killed in it. It was 5 months ago, other ceremonies have taken place to honor the victims.

I agree 100%. It's great that they're still honoring the dead, but seriously, I fail to see what any of it has to do with football. It happened almost half a year ago and we've said all the prayers we can say.. I guess if they have to use an excuse to play harder, though, that's about the only one they've got. I hate it when people overuse tragedies as an excuse to do better or play harder. If it was a plane crash involving the team or something, I could understand, but like I said - it has nothing - NOTHING - to do with football.

Get over it and play some football for the TEAM .. that's all I have to say!

LOL no doubt about it .. and I'm sure the director/writers/whatever would somehow try to work in the QB getting shot or something just to help "connect the dots" so that it wouldn't seem as ridiculous as it does now.
